Tutorial with Fred.
Today's tutorial with Fred went really well. He was very complimenting about my work and said the work I was producing was to a high quality. He also said I manage to have my own style without falling into the trap of trying to fit in to current trends.
We sat down and spoke about my current progress as well as what needs to happen next in order for me to get the most out of the next (very) few weeks. I presented psychical work as well as my blog. my blog has had a lot of attention and is clear to see I'm on top of it. Fred confirmed that a few briefs have been neglected more than others. The Owl brief had substantial amount of work and what I needed to do was list everything I could do for the other briefs so they meet the same level of quality.
He recommended me to go away for an hour and list what can I do (forget time, money etc etc)

Talking to Andy
Today I had a word with Andy for an informal tutorial regarding my Owl brief and how I've had a creative block with it. We discussed where I was with it at this point and what I could do to move it forward.
I showed him both the illustrative designs and the minimal concept driven designs. He said he preferred the illustrative designs but suggested I use patterns within the vectors.
He then suggested that each pattern should reflect the sound of the specific instrument.
ie. The bass drum is a deep, strong thud so think lines were used and the tambourine has a criss cross pattern because the instrument is shaken.
I then started to look at illustrator tutorials to sharpen my technicial skills.
I found this cool tutorial which creates an effective pattern in an effient way.
I started with two circles, one large one in the middle and a smaller circle floating above.
Pressing ⌘ + Y shows the outlines and also the centre points of the shapes.
Using the rotate tool, I clicked the centre point whilst pressing alt.
This brought up the (above) option.
The shape being a circle and 360 degrees, I divided it by 10. This action moves the circle to a specified angle. I then pressed copy, this replicates the movement. like so :
Pressing ⌘ and D repeats the action until this is the result (above)
The beauty about this effect is that you can specify the size and amount of circles as well as how close each circle are to one another.
I've started applying the shapes and textures to the Vinyl. Items such as the vinyl are self explanatory and won't work using another pattern.

Who/what to include in my context publication.
Before the tutorial my context publication was mostly brief led but having discussed the publication with Fred, it's clear that I need to rethink my direction.
With the publication being brief led, the designers I were looking were not tailored to me but rather the briefs. So -
PLAN OF ACTION - QUESTIONS THAT NEED TO BE ASKED?
-Look at designers who influence my practice and inspire who/where I want to be.
-Broaden the list beyond designers ie. Fashion designers (Who share the same thought process)
Type designers
- Narrow down list
- Decide how the publication functions
- Will it be print or web? (makes sense for it be print, seeing as I'm a print designer)
- Will it be a stand alone publication or will there be a poster along with it?
- How will it be packaged, does it need to be packaged?

Tutorial with Fred.
Today's tutorial with Fred went really well. In my previous tutorial with Fred, I was very unfocused and not very concise. This was a hindrance on the module for me as it resulted in my briefs lacking depth especially during the early stages of brief development.
This time i was much more focused on what I wanted to achieve during the module.
I started with the fact I intend on working within the cultural sector
so I made sure each one of my briefs related to my intentions.
He seemed really excited about my briefs, and it was great bouncing ideas off of each other.
During the tutorial, he mentioned how each one of my briefs relate to one another and how research for one brief could inform another.

Progress tutorial 17/1/2013
Today, as part of a group we discussed our initial ideas for briefs and our general direction for our FMP. It was really interesting hearing other people's ideas and was a great opportunity to suggest things that they hadn't initially thought about.
We each had a chance to discuss our briefs and ideas and the person sitting next to us was given the job of taking notes.
